Coaching & Mentoring - brief introduction

What's the difference between coaching and mentoring? As I see it, coaching is used for day to day issues and short-term development including goal-setting and commitment to action. Mentoring on the other hand is about longer term considerations and wider views of a career or the organisation. A mentor is someone who sees "the bigger picture" and helps the mentee to do so. These differences and definitions are discussed further on the Coaching and Mentoring Network

In either case, the value is in the 1:1 work, with the client getting good quality attention from the coach or mentor and a valuable space in which to work things out for themselves.
